Dick’s Sporting Goods Destroyed Millions of Dollars Worth of Guns

As most people know Dick’s Sporting Goods took a controversial stance on modern sporting rifled during the aftermath of the Parkland, Florida school shooting. They decided to stop selling the rifles in all of their stores, but a lot of people do not know what happened to the pulled rifles.

In an interview with CBS, Dick’s CEO, Ed Stack, stated that the company destroyed millions of dollars worth of firearms that were pulled from the shelves. It is not known the exact dollar amount of the destroyed weapons, but Fox News estimates the cost to be somewhere around $5 Million.

I said, ‘You know what? If we really think these things should be off the street, we need to destroy them,'” Ed Stack said.

The company lost over 250 Million dollars in sales for the decision, but their stocks held steady with an influx of customers that supported gun control.

Gun owners and hunters have boycotted the store ever since the decision. So mush so that Dick’s is considering getting out of the hunting business. They tested the move in 10 stores and it proved profitable.

Personally, I think it makes since for Dick’s to get out of the hunting and gun business. Gun owners and hunters are not shopping there so using the floor space for other items makes since.

I know most people won’t admit it but it looks like the boycott actually worked. We caused a major corporation to revamp their entire business model. Sure we did not drive them out of business, but they will no longer make money off of us.
